Five Festive Fall Date Ideas

My boyfriend and I have been together for six and a half years. That's a long time. Our "dating" days are far, far behind us. We spend most nights curled up on the couch in our pajamas, binge-watching Netflix, and we're perfectly okay with that. However, once in a while, it's nice to get out of the house and do something as a couple.

With autumn in full swing, there are lots of great ways you can enjoy all that the season has to offer and spend some quality time with your partner. Here are some of my favorite fall date ideas:

1. Go stargazing
Stargazing is one of my absolute favorite date ideas. Why? There’s something a little bit magical (and super romantic) about cuddling beneath the night sky, waiting to glimpse a shooting star. And, bonus - you don’t have to spend any money to make it happen. Just grab a couple of blankets and a bottle of wine (or a thermos of hot chocolate), head out into the backyard, and get comfy. While you might get lucky on any given night, I’d recommend planning this one during a meteor shower - either the Orionids, which happen on October 21, and the Leonids, which begin on November 17.

 2. Carve pumpkins
Is there any activity more quintessentially “autumn” than carving pumpkins? Nope, didn’t think so. Stop buy a local farm stand or grocery store, pick up a couple of pumpkins, and get to work! If you want to get fancy with it, there are tons of pumpkin carving stencils and tutorials online. However, if you’re like me, your main objective is to carve that pumpkin as quickly as possible so you can roast some pumpkin seeds afterward.

 3. Go leaf peeping
One of my favorite things about autumn is the changing of the leaves. I love driving through forests filled with pops of color - red, orange, yellow - and as soon as I hear that the leaves are turning in the mountains, we plan a day trip to check it out. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, or just love spending time outside, try finding a nearby hike.

 4. Make a bonfire
OK, I know that bonfires and s’mores are more of a summer thing. However, I find myself spending more time outside by the fire in the fall - when the temperatures drop, all I want to do is snuggle up next to something warm, and our outdoor fireplace is my favorite spot to do just that. Toast some marshmallows, roast some hot dogs, or just sip on a warm mug of apple cider and enjoy!

 5. Tour a brewery (or winery, or distillery!)
With so many delicious seasonal brews on tap (did anyone say pumpkin beer?), autumn is a great time to tour a local brewery. Spend some time learning about the brewing process, meeting the folks behind the scenes, and enjoying some samples! When you’re done, grab a table and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat. If beer isn’t your thing, never fear! Lots of wineries and distilleries offer free tours and tastings, too, and are well worth the visit.

So, there you have it - five awesome ways to spend some quality time with your significant other this season. Do you have any favorite fall go-to date ideas? I'd love to hear them! Drop me a comment and let me know what you think!
